Inspired by Julia Kristeva’s writings on depression and melancholy, The Lantern is a video-essay on the effects of gaslighting, a form of manipulation wherein the perpetrator gradually compromises the victim’s sense of self. While the trials of the characters seem all in vain through their endless repetitions, The Lantern also shows that emancipation can come through rage and provocation. This first experimental short from the ignis fatuus production house is part of a series of videos which explore misunderstandings, gender-based repression, and hysteria within the history of feminism.
