The Wooden Doll

Synopsis:

A man sits alone in a room. Surrounded by overflowing book shelves and bathed in the blue light of an old TV, playing a haunted film. The room is haunted by himself. He is writing, forging his own grand narrative. He is trying to repair reality. Meanwhile, a small wooden figure watches from the shadows. The Wooden Doll could variously be described as a 'horror film' or a 'psychological drama', however I prefer the term 'uncanny'. It is a story about what it means to be haunted and how the past manifests in the present; how it is never truly past. It also a story about perception and memory, and the narratives we tell ourselves in order to preserve dignity and strength in the face of life's vagaries. The style is both incandescent and subdued, as different narrative fragments slowly merge to bring the films protagonist face to face with himself.
