The Blood in Our Veins

Synopsis:

Daniel Royas, a young undocumented Hispanic man growing up in the streets of Corona, Queens does everything he can for to provide security for his sister Sofia and his mother Alejandra. On the day of his birthday Daniel tells his mother his concern over her poor health, and so schedules an appointment for her to see a doctor. Reluctant at first, Alejandra gives in and agrees to go the clinic.
That afternoon Daniel and Alejandra arrive at the clinic where tests are run. The doctor delivers devastating news that Alejandra has a late stage Leukemia, with very little time to live. That evening Daniel and Alejandra argue over the state of his mother’s health. Angered and confused Daniel storms out of the house.
He meets with Jonny to attend a local party. Daniel drinks too much and fights a partygoer, eventually losing. The following morning Daniel tells Jonny the news about his mother. Jonny encourages Daniel to stay strong and stick by his family. Daniel arrives home, battered, but nonetheless embraced with love to help his mother in her time of need.
